A Message from Gail

Hello Friends,

At Kansas Children’s Service League (KCSL), we believe stronger families create stronger communities. Our mission focuses on protecting and promoting the well-being of children by supporting families before challenges escalate into crises. When parents and caregivers receive the support they need, they can create positive childhood experiences (PCEs) that lead to healthier, happier outcomes. Children who grow up in stable, supportive environments are more likely to succeed in school, build meaningful relationships and contribute to the workforce.

Fathers and father figures bring unique and essential contributions to a child’s development. Research consistently shows that when fathers are engaged, children experience stronger social, emotional and cognitive development, along with improved academic and long-term mental health outcomes. These relationships help children build confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging that carries into adulthood.

Despite their importance, many fathers face significant challenges that can make it difficult to stay engaged. Today’s dads often feel pressure to balance work responsibilities with being active, emotionally present parents, meaning fathers must navigate increasing expectations both at work and at home. That dual expectation can lead to stress, burnout and even mental health concerns.

Fathers may also struggle with limited support networks. Social expectations can discourage open conversations about parenting challenges or emotional well-being, especially among men. Without opportunities to connect with others who share their experiences, dads can feel isolated. This is why building supportive environments for fathers is not just helpful but essential.

So how can we support the fathers and father figures in our lives?

First, we can listen. Creating space for dads to talk openly about their experiences, challenges and successes helps break down stigma and strengthens connections.

Second, we can encourage involvement. Whether it is attending a school event, reading at bedtime or participating in daily routines, every moment of connection matters. Engaged fathers make a lasting impact on their child’s development.

Third, we can connect dads to resources. Parenting is not something anyone should navigate alone. Support groups, educational programs and community services provide tools and encouragement that help fathers grow in their roles.

Finally, we can offer appreciation. Recognizing the efforts fathers make, both big and small, reinforces their importance and encourages continued engagement.

KCSL is committed to supporting fathers as part of our broader work to strengthen families. Through fatherhood programs, parent engagement initiatives and regular support groups, we create a welcoming environment where dads can connect, learn and grow. Our services provide practical tools, peer support and opportunities for fathers to build confidence in their parenting journey.

When we invest in fathers, we invest in families. And when families thrive, communities grow stronger for generations to come. Join us in supporting dads and father figures all year.

Sincerely,
