A Message from Gail
Hello Friends,
We know that when caregivers thrive, children do too. Mental health is essential to family well-being, yet many parents and caregivers put their needs last. Taking time to care for your emotional health isn’t selfish; it’s one of the most important things you can do for your family.
Caregiver Wellness Shapes How Children Grow
Children watch and learn from the adults around them. They notice how we respond to stress, express emotions and ask for help. When caregivers model healthy coping skills, children are more likely to build those skills themselves. This kind of everyday modeling helps children feel safe, supported and capable.
When caregivers have the tools and support they need, children are more likely to experience Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs). Caregiver well-being lays the foundation for a child’s lifelong health and success. Research shows that parents and caregivers can help children develop healthy behaviors, boost resilience and feel loved. Both children and adults benefit from supportive relationships and positive experiences. These are the building blocks of stronger families.
PCEs help build emotional strength, confidence and a sense of belonging. They give children the tools to manage stress, adapt to challenges and approach life with hope. Supportive environments create the foundation for healthier emotional development and long-term mental well-being.
Meeting Families Where They Are
Every day, Kansas Children’s Service League works to strengthen families by meeting them where they are and addressing their needs at every level. Through parenting education, mental health support, home visiting services and more, our programs help caregivers feel empowered and connected. This month, we invite you to pause and reflect on your mental wellness. What do you need to feel more secure? What small steps can you take to care for yourself? Your well-being matters. When you take care of yourself, you take care of your whole family.
With care,
