KCSL Mission Tours

Unlike a normal building tour, Building Healthy Families (BHF) tours are mission tours that guide visitors through the programs and services KCSL provides to help prevent child abuse, strengthen families and empower parents and youth. The tours provide an intimate setting for visitors to not only engage with KCSL but also discover simple ways they can help spread awareness of KCSL’s mission, such as inviting a friend to a tour or referring a family to KCSL services.

KCSL hosts BHF building tours at our Topeka and Wichita offices. All locations offer private tours called “Tours in a Box” for your community or corporate group. To participate in a BHF tour, contact the coordinator in your area.

Preventing Child Abuse Preventing Child Abuse
An entire at-risk family can be served with intensive home visitation services for $6,500 per year for three years with a 99 percent success rate in preventing child abuse and neglect. When we fail to reach even one of these children, as taxpayers, we pay more than $240,000 over the lifetime of each child in increased health care, special education and loss of worker productivity.

Preventing Child Abuse Strengthening Families
There are over 1,000 children and youth at any one time in Kansas who want to be a part of a family that can meet their needs. As a result of not finding the right support for those children, Kansas has recognized a growth in foster care to an all-time high of more than 6,774 children, a growth of more than 25 percent over the past six years.

Preventing Child Abuse Empowering Parents and Youth
At times, any parent or youth from any zip code in Kansas may face overwhelming challenges in their lives due to a lack of adequate family support, struggles in school or because they feel isolated and alone. With our help, parents and youth see and find new paths to success. They learn to advocate for their needs and build natural, healthy and sustainable support systems for themselves and their family. They achieve goals and dreams never thought possible, and lives are transformed as a result.
